Veteran Administration Benefits

Most people are fully aware of the requirements to qualify for service-connected V.A. disability benefits. However, many veterans and their family members are not aware of funds that are available through the V.A. that are not service-connected.

The Aid & Attendance pension program is a non-taxable benefit that can be used by either a veteran, or their surviving spouse to fund care in a nursing home, assisted living facility, or to pay for assistance at home. These services are available if a physician has determined that help is needed to perform the daily activities of life. This particular program does have conditions that are income and asset related; i.e., the cost of one's care must exceed your income, etc. This often overlooked benefit may be a viable option that you have not considered.
