Watching his father lose his retirement fund to white collar criminals was a dramatic event for Michael and was the catalyst that prompted him to return to college in 1994 determined to devote his life to helping senior citizens. In 1999, Michael received a Bachelor of Science degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where he majored in finance with an emphasis on estate planning and a minor in gerontology.
Michael has completed a 22-course study in the financial, physical, emotional and spiritual issues of aging and he receives ongoing continuing education yearly. He has earned a number of professional certifications and designations, including Certified Long-Term Care Counselor (CLTCC). He has formerly served as a hospice counselor for Middle TN Medical Center Hospice Div. in Nashville, TN (now known as Alive Hospice) and served multiple terms on Fifty Forward Foundations as a Board of Directors, which supports and governs fifteen senior citizen centers throughout Middle Tennessee.
Mike is in much demand as a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) instructor for the State of Tennessee’s middle and eastern districts. He continues to serve as an estate advisor on the education panel with the Alzheimer’s Association and Mental Health Association of Tennessee.
Mike is a published author of articles for senior focused magazines and newsletters related to estate planning, Medicaid, Medicare and the many financial, legal and social issues that affect the aged and their loved ones. He is a popular lecturer and keynote speaker who is enthusiastic to share his expertise and passion for seniors with professional groups and civic organizations nationwide.
